Who is Families Fighting Flu? What do they do? – They aim to help save lives!
Families Fighting Flu (FFF) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2004 by parents who found each other with one common experience, they all lost a child under the age of 5 years old to influenza (flu). At the time, an annual flu vaccination was not recommended for their child’s age group. These founding families set out to offer support to other families who had similar experiences, educate and advocate on how severe the flu can be, and help bring change in ACIP recommendations that all individuals six months and older receive an annual flu vaccine.
Families Fighting Flu is dedicated to raising awareness and educating individuals and families on the importance of receiving annual flu vaccines. The CDC has reported 166 pediatric flu deaths during the 2022-2023 flu season. Our goal is to reduce the number of flu deaths and hospitalizations. We aim to protect children, families, and communities from the potentially devastating effects of influenza.
Our organization includes families whose loved ones have suffered serious medical complications or have died from influenza. FFF Advocates include passionate individuals and healthcare professionals committed to flu education and prevention.
We honor our family stories and their loved ones by spreading awareness, providing free educational materials and resources in print and digital, sharing our family stories, and working closely with our FFF advocates to encourage their communities to get vaccinated and protect themselves and others from the flu.
By working to increase awareness of the severity of influenza and the importance of vaccination, we hope to reduce the number of influenza-related hospitalizations and deaths each year.
Influenza can be serious and potentially life-threatening to anyone, regardless of age or health condition. Every year healthy individuals of all ages suffer from complications of influenza which result in hospitalization and possibly death. Getting vaccinated protects yourself and helps protect those around you, including friends and family.
Families Fighting Flu, being a nonprofit organization, operates solely on donations from individuals and organizations who support our mission and share our goals.
On National Nonprofit Day, we ask you to support Families Fighting Flu in our efforts to bring awareness to all individuals and communities to keep people safe and healthy.
